2024 Photography Workshop Wrap-UP: Reflections, Growth & What’s Next

This year has been an awesome journey with Spark Adventure Photography, full of learning and new friendships formed over a common passion, photography.

Whether we hiked trails at Killbear Provincial Park (click the link to take a peek at what this workshop looks like), canoed down a winding river at Algonquin Provincial Park (and click this link if you want to see our adventure), or explored the eerie sculptures at Screaming Heads, every workshop had something different to offer.

I want to take a moment to reflect on what experiences we had together—and think about what’s next for 2025.

One thing I know, is that we all connected over the love of nature, being outdoors, and learning how to capture it all authentically using a camera. I have a couple of thoughts on what you’re missing when you use your phone to take photos.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You love the outdoors, but family and work demands have left little room for your connection with it.

  • Your camera has been gathering dust on the shelf because finding time to learn and practice is overwhelming and using your phone is way too easy.

  • You miss the way nature used to recharge you, but it’s hard to plan a meaningful escape.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. Many women who joined my workshops this year felt the same way at first. But once they learned how to use their camera it sparked a new sense of excitement and passion for photography. Using a camera to photograph nature is an amazing way to create a meaningful connection, and be present in your surroundings without the distraction of your phone and constant notifications.

From My Participants

“You could not ask for a better backdrop and scenery than Algonquin Park. Cobi was informative and helped me fix an issue with my camera that I couldn't find. I have had my camera for 15 years but I get away from it and don't realize how much more detailed it is than a cell phone!! I had not touched my camera in years - now I am back at it. Cobi took her time, answered our questions and in the afternoon we were able to put it to good use on our kayak - I am happy to have had this course to get me back on track.” - Wendy

“The workshop with Cobi was informative, fun, and empowering. I learned so much about manual mode and composition, and have a new found confidence with my camera. The bonding with other women was a bonus. Highly recommend Sparks Adventure Photography.” - Laura

“Sure, I know how to take a photo but the mechanics of going fully manual just wouldn't stick in my head - until I attended a workshop with Spark Adventure Photography. Goodbye autofocus! I am ready to take my photography to the next level.” - Jennifer

Looking Ahead to 2025: More Adventures, More Learning

Next year I’m planning even more workshops designed to help you reconnect and photograph your subject in a way that is authentic. Here’s what you can expect:

  • New Locations: I’m offering quite a number of new and exciting locations across Ontario. I’ll be announcing these before the end of the year.

  • Half Day Workshops: New next year, I will be organizing half day workshops at fun locations. There won’t be the dedicated instruction that a full-day workshop offers, but an afternoon spent photographing interesting locations and subjects with a group of women. It’s an opportunity to build a community of women photographers.
